El Parasol

El Parasol is a casual place to try Northern New Mexico and Mexican traditional favorites. While you are within a 50-mile radius of New Mexico this is the place to stop and enjoy a bit to eat. El Parasol is a local favorite and they serve some great options.

El Parasol started in 1958 with both Pedro and Lorenzo Atencio when they were 10 and 12 years old selling their mother's eef tacos and red pork tamales. At first, their small business venture was limited only to the summer months. The price of tacos were 15 cents and tamales were 10 cents. The locals used to refer to this seasonal business as the stand. The locals began to ask that they open a year-round place.

They finally opened a year-round place and from 1964 to 1969 their menu was expanded from just their tacos and tamales to other popular foods like hamburgers, tostadas, burritos, and homemade desserts. Their food soon gained a great reputation and people started traveling from all over Northern New Mexico to try the food. Their are six locations of El Parasol, including the one in Espanola, North Espanola, Los Alamos, Pojoaque, Santa Fe Cerrillos Road, and Santa Fe South.
